Thank you, Dannie. Yes, so many self-pubbed books have fantastic plots and wonderful characters. I'm glad you agree with me about editing. It can be expensive, but it's worth the time and money. And yes, sometimes I find errors in traditionally published work, too. Just a few days ago I saw two glaring errors in the first seven pages of a traditionally published novel by a well-known author. It happens, and it should be overlooked when it's few and far between. But if it's simply laziness on the part of an author (or editor), then it becomes annoying. Thanks so much for your post!

K.L. As a self published author I want to thank you for your post! Self publishing is nothing to look down your nose at but it has a way to go to be accepted fully. And the reasons are just as you described.

Writers are their own worst enemy when it comes to building a section of the industry up. If we-- self published writers-- don't take the time and spend the money to get out works edited properly then readers will have to slog through the mire to find a gem.

Yes writer's with agents and big publishing companies put out terrible books from time to time but the readers can pick the book up and expect to get a well edited terrible book. And yes there will be an error or two but they usually don't take away from the reading pleasure.

I read more and more independent authors now and I return to a writer who has taking the time to put out a quality book. The others I write to and try-- in a nice way- let them know they need to work on their work.

Thank you for a great post.
